ISP officer from Chatham set for 5th highest Army promotion

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A South Side Chatham neighborhood resident will be promoted to brigadier general on Saturday – the fifth highest rank military personnel can receive.

Col. Michael Zerbonia, of the Illinois Army National Guard, is set for his one-star promotion at 3 p.m. at the Illinois Military Academy Auditorium at Camp Lincoln, 1301 N. MacArthur Blvd. in Springfield.

Zerbonia also serves as colonel of operations for the Illinois State Police. Military generals vary – from one star to five. There are less than six five-star generals in the history of the Army. Among them: General George C. Marshal, Douglas MacArthur and Dwight Eisenhower.
