OAK LAWN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An elderly southwest suburban woman who died Tuesday was the 17th person whose death was at least partially caused by cold weather this winter in Cook County.

Antoinette Diesness, 86, was found at her home in the 8700 block of South Meade Avenue in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died at 12:11 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

A Wednesday autopsy found Diesness died of hypothermia and cold exposure, and listed heart disease and dementia as secondary factors, the medical examiner's office said.

Her death was the 17th cold-related fatality in Cook County this winter, officials said.

Oak Lawn police did not immediately return calls for comment.

Last winter and the winter of 2011-12 each saw 14 cold-related deaths in the county, officials said. The two winters before — 2009-10 and 2010-11 — each had 17, while the winter of 2008-09 had 23.
