WOODSTOCK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Wisconsin woman was driving under the influence of drugs, with two children in her car, when she caused a crash Sunday that left six people injured, including the children.

The crash happened just before 4:45 p.m. in the 5400 block of Alden Road in an unincorporated area near northwest suburban Woodstock, the McHenry County Sheriff's office said.

Kelly Kufke, 36, was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with two young passengers southbound when the car crossed over into the northbound lane, a statement from the sheriff's office said.

The driver of a northbound 2003 Honda Accord tried to avoid the Jetta, but ended up colliding with it near the shoulder of the northbound lane, police said.

Kufke and the two children were taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, while three passengers in the Honda were taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry, police said. The man driving the Honda was not hurt.

Kufke, of Manitowoc, Wis., was charged with aggravated DUI, DUI involving drugs or a combination of drugs, and endangering the life and well being of a child, police said.

Child welfare officials in both Illinois and Wisconsin were notified of the incident, the statement said.

Court information was not immediately available.
