CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Four people were wounded and one man was killed in a shooting in a bar on the South Side early Saturday.

The five people were shot about 12:52 a.m. while they were attending a party inside Rudy's Lounge in the 5100 block of South Union Avenue, police said. An argument broke out between party-goers and two uninvited males, and after the males were escorted from the bar by security, shots were fired from the bar's doorway.

A 35-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 1:38 a.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. His name was withheld early Saturday pending notification of his family.

Also, a 37-year-old man was shot in the neck and a 40-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the head, police said. Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were both listed in "stable" condition.

A woman, 34, suffered a graze wound to the neck in the shooting and took herself to Provident Hospital of Cook County, police said. She was later transferred to Stroger Hospital and listed in "stable" condition.

A 37-year-old man also drove himself to Provident Hospital with a graze wound to the arm, police said. As of 5 a.m., he had been treated and released.

Donald Jackson, 51, said he was at the bar for a nephew's birthday party, and was in the back when he heard shots ring out.

Jackson said a different nephew of his, who is in his 30s, was one of the people shot.

"I saw him lying in the bar in a pool of blood," he said.

He didn't know the extent of his nephew's injuries. "There's so much blood in that bar."

A 36-year-old neighbor, Keisha Noel, said she heard four shots fired. She has lived next door to Rudy's Lounge with four young children, between the ages of 5 months and 1 year, for nearly two years.

"To tell you the truth, this is the first time I've seen something like this," Noel said. "But I'm used to this sort of thing, this block is mostly safe, but this is still Chicago."

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives are investigating.
