Eastpointe man's car still in the customs shop 6 months later

(WJBK) -

Andre Mitchell is a barber in Eastpointe and drives an old car he loves, a 1985 Delta 88. He spent $2,000 to get new, custom seats and then took the car to Inch Customs, also in Eastpointe, for body work. That job cost him $1,200, which he paid back in July.

Now, months later, Mitchell still has no car.

"He didn't finish the work. He left my car outside with no doors on it - his dog was living in my car - messed up my brand new interior; messed up my brand new carpet. The dashboard was never taken care of," Mitchell says. He says Inch Customs offered to paint the car, but instead of finishing the job and putting it all back together, he's been stuck driving a rental since last summer, which has gotten expensive.

"I'm like four thousand dollars in right now," he tells Fox 2's Amy Lange.

The owner here at Inch Customs says he's the one losing money.

"I did over and beyond, three thousand dollars over and beyond 12 hundred dollars. I'm just done - I quit," says Eric Phipps.

Phipps, known as "Fish", says he agreed to do the body work for $1,200 and did the paint as a favor for a fellow Eastpointe businessman, but now needs more money to finish the paint job and put everything back together.

"Bring me up halfway, finish the car. You won't? I'll give you half your money back, get it out of my shop - wash my hands," says Phipps.

But Mitchell says he only wanted body work and primer, and the only place he's going is court.
