Simple steps can prevent damage from cold

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Many homeowners weren't prepared when a deep freeze moved through the metro Atlanta area two weeks ago. Pipes burst all over the city and caused quite a bit of damage.

David Cunningham of Superior Plumbing says there are simple steps you can take to keep your home safe.

Here are some tips:

1. Turn off shut off valve to your spigot.
2. Disconnect outside hoses and turn spigot on.
3. Open cabinets under sinks to allow warm air to get to pipes
4. Let faucets drip hot and cold water
5. Close storm doors and garage doors
