Security concerns for local athletes heading to the Sochi Olympics

Meryl Davis and Charlie White won a silver medal in ice dancing in 2010 and this year they are coming back for the gold. The University of Michigan graduates and reigning world champions train at Arctic Edge in Canton alongside their top competitors, Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir,  who won the gold four years ago.

"They're excited but they're more getting into competing against each other, really, because they're the top two teams in the world and they have been for the last five years," says Olympic coach Johnny Johns.

The skaters are focused on performing while lawmakers worry about security.

A video was posted online Sunday by an Islamic militant group threatening to strike the Olympics in Sochi. The group claims to be responsible for a recent suicide bombing in Volgograd that killed 34 people, and one Michigan lawmaker says Russia is not fully cooperating with U.S. officials.

"This has been a tug of war, people are pushing and pulling on this. This shouldn't be this difficult. It is in everyone's interest, including the Russians, to share that information with our security forces," Rep. Mike Rogers (R) Michigan said on 'Face the Nation.' He chairs the House Intelligence Committee.

Russia's counter-terrorism agency says it is studying the video. Two Russian-speaking men featured in the video are identified as members of Ansar al-Sunna, the name of a militant group operating in Iraq. It was unclear whether they had received funding or training from the group or only adopted its name.
Meanwhile, Johns says his skaters are only worried about one thing - winning. He does not see a reason for safety concerns at this time.

"They way they have it set up, if you stay in the bubble, which is either the village or their venue, everything should be fine. I'm sure that Russia's a pretty proud country. They're going to have a pretty good handle on this," Johns says.

Rogers says 15,000 Americans are estimated to travel to Sochi for the Olympics.

The games begin Feb. 7.
