Study: Chicago Public Library 1st in US, 3rd in the world

A recently released study ranked the Chicago Public Library the best in the country in terms of core services, and third overall in the world.

The study, performed by the Information Science Department of the Heinrich Heine University Dusseldorf in Germany, ranked Chicago's public library system the best in the country when it came to "taking a leadership role in supporting ‘smart cities' in the ‘knowledge economy,'" according to a release from Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office.

"This report adds to the volume of research recognizing the leading global role that [the] Chicago Public Library has taken in leveraging technology to enhance library services and underscores the fact that Chicago is recognized internationally as a world-class city," Emanuel said in the release.Of the 31 cities included in the study, Chicago outranked Shanghai, Singapore, New York, Beijing, Hong Kong and London, among others, the release said.
