Police: Call about shooting at Johns Creek home was a hoax

Posted: Updated:

Johns Creek police are on the lookout for whoever pulled off a hoax and put a strain on police resources.

Officers rushed to a mansion in the Country Club of the South subdivision, where someone called Alpharetta Police Thursday afternoon with a report of three people shot inside a home on Carlisle Lane.

Johns Creek Police say 15 to 20 first responders and the SWAT team came out.

"The babysitter and a juvenile come out. They were surprised to see us," said Lt. Nick Curry of Johns Creek Police.

Police called the nanny and two other kids out of the mansion just to be sure. They said everybody was okay and it appeared that the call was a prank.

"I think it's a very distasteful type of situation, to waste the resources of the police and fire departments of the surrounding jurisdictions as well," Curry said.

Detectives are still looking for the caller. They say the person could be charged with a misdemeanor of misuse of 911. They also say that they could seek restitution against the caller for the financial resources used to respond to this call.
