ATLANTA -

Firefighters battled a blaze at a parking deck in Midtown Atlanta Thursday afternoon.

Officials said that two cars caught fire in a garage around 3 p.m. in the 1000 block of Peachtree Street NE. The entire complex between 11th and 12th streets, including the Loews Hotel, was evacuated as crews fought the fire. Firefighters said that the fire was contained to the parking deck, but some smoke got into the hotel.

Crews went floor-by-floor and conducted carbon monoxide testing to ensure safety before letting guests back into the hotel.

People were allowed back into the buildings shortly after 4 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say they do not believe it is suspicious.
