NAACP hosts MLK Jr. gun buy back

ATLANTA -

Various dignitaries from around the city gathered at Turner Field for the NAACP's gun buyback initiative to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday on Thursday afternoon.

The event is being hosted by the NAACP's Atlanta chapter.

President R.L. White says, "we are not asking any questions, we just want the guns off the street."

The NAACP is looking for operative guns: 22 calibers, shotguns, assault weapons and rifles but they will accept inoperative guns for gift card exchange.

The gun buy back is being held in conjunction with the Atlanta Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff's Department, Atlanta Victim Assistance and the Men Stopping Violence Organization.
