DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Detroit City Council president pro-tem George Cushingberry is making headlines again, this time for his financial woes. He admitted on Let It Rip Weekend to being more than $530,000 in debt and filing for personal bankruptcy in 2011. The issue was resolved just days before the August city council primary.

According to court documents, Cushingberry owed tens of thousands for unpaid taxes, credit card bills and mortgages on two homes in Detroit, one in Lansing, and another at a resort in Orlando, Florida.

"You're talking about a guy who had to pay about $72,000 a year just for four homes and mortgages," says Steve Neavling, a blogger with Motor City Muckraker who obtained the court records. "I don't know how he was going to be able to pay that money back and obviously he couldn't."
