Web tool points residents to flu shots in Chicago

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicagoans seeking flu shots can find a pharmacy or clinic nearby using an online tool from the city's health department.

ChicagoFluShots.org shows where people can get vaccine to protect against the virus. People also can call 311 to locate a clinic or pharmacy.

The health department said Thursday that flu activity has been increasing gradually in recent weeks. Dr. Julie Morita of the health department says all the vaccines, including the nasal spray, provide protection against the strain of the virus that's most common this year.

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced earlier this week that flu activity is now widespread, meaning the virus is showing up in at least half the state. Illinois has seen six deaths from flu so far this season.
