Palatine officials ask for help digging out fire hydrants

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Fire department officials in northwest suburban Palatine are asking for help from residents and business owners in digging out village fire hydrants that have been snowed in after a week of severe winter weather.

Many of the village's 3,557 hydrants remain buried, according to a news release from the Palatine fire department.

Nearly 10 inches of snow have fallen there since Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Officials are asking people to "adopt" nearby hydrants by clearing all snow within three feet of them.

Damaged hydrants are asked to be reported to village public works at (847) 705-5200.
