CTA expected to vote on Blue Line station renovation

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The CTA board is expected to vote Tuesday on a $23 million plan to rehabilitate the Blue Line's Illinois Medical District station.

The third-busiest station on the West Side Blue Line has not been renovated since it opened 56 years ago, according to the CTA.

The renovation would be funded by Mayor Emanuel's "Chicago Neighborhoods Now" program and include a rebuilding of the main stationhouse, two separate entrances made accessible for people with disabilities; and new lights, signage and platform improvements.

The station serves the Medical District, which sees more than 29,000 employees and receives about 75,000 visitors each weekday.
