Cold temperatures don`t keep messengers from riding

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

There are those who chose to stay warm and indoors today, and there are others that could not.

While it was very hard to find people working outdoors, there were those that had to brave the frigid temperatures and they were prepared to deal with anything Mother Nature threw at them.

"He's got rubber boots on and somebody gave me baby socks to put underneath to keep his feet warm, but they still come off, so. We sometimes have a rough time," dog owner Susanne Flood said.

While dogs, and the owners, had to go outside briefly, you may be surprised by those who thrive in this weather, bike messengers.

"You know there's not bad weather, just bad clothing," Adam Hanzel, a messenger for US Messenger Service said.

Hanzel, who was bundled up head to toe, zooms around town for US Messenger Service when it was -14 degrees,

"It hasn't been too bad. It's kind of slow, I'm pretty covered up, so the cold hasn't affected me too much," Hanzel said. "To me it feels good, I mean it feels better than walking. It's a little tricky because all of the slush is no longer slush it's choppy ice. But, I mean, I'm always moving and it keeps my body temperature up."

An unbelievable feat for the rest of us trying to stay warm indoors.

Bike messengers around Chicago tried keeping themselves as busy as possible, as long as they keep moving the cold doesn't hurt just as much.
