Columbus police charge suspect in group home case

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - A third suspect has been charged with exploitation as Columbus authorities investigate a group home for adults.

Tina Drakeford was arrested Thursday and charged with a felony count of exploitation and intimidation of a disabled adult, elderly person or resident. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that the 74-year-old was released on $5,000 bond.

A phone listing for Drakeford was disconnected. It was unclear whether she had an attorney.

Her arrest came a month after the director of the Loving Care group home, Sheryl Drakeford, and maintenance employee Bruce Davis were accused of the same offense.

Authorities found new homes for 19 disabled adults at the facility after a Dec. 4 kitchen fire. Police said they found violations in the care of food and patient medical treatment.
