Police find three young girls home alone with no food or beds

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Police say a Detroit mother left her three young daughters home alone after her son shot her fiancé in the hand. Officers discovered the girls, aged 1, 4, and 5, in a home they say had no beds for the kids and no food in sight. They also report dog feces in multiple spots throughout the home.

The entire ordeal began at the home in the 15000 block of Ardmore on Detroit's west side after an argument over who was more important to the mother. Police say the 16-year-old son then shot the 37-year-old man in the finger. The mother took her fiancé to the hospital and left her girls at home.

The 37-year-old mother is now in jail for child endangerment. Her 16-year-old son, the alleged shooter, is still on the loose.

Child protective services was called and the girls have been placed in the care of their grandmother pending an investigation.
