Decrease in violent crime for Chicago in 2013

CHICAGO, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

The year 2013 proved to be a violent year in the city of Chicago,  but the city seems to be gaining the upper hand in the war on crime.

The city averaged .11 murders a day in 2013.

But according to new numbers from the Chicago Police Department, Chicago reported a 17 percent drop in killings compared to last year.

This is nearly 50-year- low for violent deaths.

The greatest drop in murders happened in the Chicago Lawn, Near West Side and Washington Park communities.
