Police warn of delivery, home robberies on Near West Side

Police are warning residents and businesses about two recent pairs of robberies on the Near West Side.

Police are seeking multiple suspects in a pair of residential robberies in which the robbers knocked on the victims' doors, displayed handguns and demanded money, according to a community alert issued by Area Central detectives.

The first such robbery occurred Dec. 22 about 9:45 p.m. in the 100 block of North Hoyne Avenue, followed by another Dec. 26 in the 1900 block of West Maypole Avenue about 6:05 p.m., police said.

Police said suspect descriptions varied, but the robbers were generally described as one to four black men, about 25 years old, standing around 5-foot-8 and weighing approximately 170 pounds. They wore black ski masks during the robberies.

Police also issued a warning about a pair of robberies affecting restaurant delivery drivers in the 2900 block of West Walnut Street. A single suspect has displayed a handgun and demanded money and food from the drivers, police said.

The first robbery took place on Dec. 22 about 6:45 p.m., and the second occurred about 7:30 p.m. Dec. 27, police said.

The suspect in the delivery driver robberies is described as a black man between 20 and 25 years old, 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-8 and 125 to 150 pounds, police said.
