LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) - The Chicago Bears have agreed to a four-year contract extension with kicker Robbie Gould through the 2017 season.

Gould called the extension an "awesome opportunity," according to a tweet by @ChicagoBears.

"I thought it was important that I remain a Bear," Gould said at the Bears press conference. "If I'm going to hold a trophy up, I want to do it with the Chicago Bears."

He is optimistic about the future, saying Friday that he thinks the team can do something very special down the road.

Gould has converted 86 percent of his attempts in his career and ranks as the third most accurate kicker in NFL history behind Mike Vanderjagt (86.5 percent) and Nate Kaeding (86.2 percent).

He has hit 26 of 29 field goals this season, including a franchise record 58-yarder against Cincinnati in the season opener.
