CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The family of the young boy hit and killed by a carjacking suspect quietly gathered to celebrate Christmas eve, Tuesday.

His family spent the day remembering him. 11-year-old Donovan Turnage loved reading and football.

"One thing that as a family we always celebrated holidays together, every weekend we were all here anyway. So we knew that Donovan, he was the life of the party, he was enjoyable and that's how we're celebrating Christmas in his memory," Donovan's uncle and the family pastor, Reverend Anibal Vega said.

Donovan, his father and brother were on their way to their annual Christmas haircut, Saturday when their s-u-v was hit as police chased Rockie Douglas.

Douglas was accused of carjacking a vehicle, then crashing into the Turnage family and carjacking another vehicle, according to Chicago Police.

After searching for him for 3 days, authorities found him just north of Milwaukee, Wis. U.S. Marshals from Chicago and Milwaukee pinned him in at a McDonald's drive-through Tuesday afternoon.

Douglas attempted to use his passenger as a shield, but then gave up without a struggle, according to marshals.

Donovan Turnage's family said their sadness had some joy in it after they heard the news. "He's not going to do anything else to anybody else's family, so we're very excited and grateful for the support and the condolences from everyone," Vega said.

Authorities were attempting to extradite Douglas back to Illinois.
