DES PLAINES, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Three people were hospitalized after a Metra train hit a vehicle Friday evening in northwest suburban Des Plaines.

A vehicle was passing over the railroad tracks near Touhy Avenue and Mannheim Road around 6:12 p.m. when eastbound North Central Service Train No. 115 hit the vehicle, authorities said.

The car's driver and two passengers were taken to area hospitals for treatment with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Two people were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, while the other injured person was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, according to a Metra spokesman.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for vehicle code violations, police said.

Train. 115, scheduled to arrive in Antioch at 7:07 p.m., was back on the move as of 7:17 p.m. and was running between 70 to 75 minutes behind schedule.
