Police seeking suspects in Hyde Park robberies

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are warning residents about an increase in strong-arm robberies near schools in the South Side Hyde Park neighborhood in December.

In each case, the robber or robbers approach people as area schools are dismissing for the day, and take personal property, Area Central detectives said in a community alert.

The robberies have happened in an area between 51st Street and 55th Street, between Ellis and Blackstone avenues, the alert said.

Descriptions of the suspects vary, but they are generally described as black men between 15 and 25, weighing 145-200 pounds, the alert said.

Police are urging residents to be aware of their surroundings and walk in groups of two or more, the alert said.

Anyone with any information should call detectives at (312) 747-8380.
