Bomb scare prompts building search at Elmwood Park HS

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Elmwood Park High School sent a letter to parents Wednesday afternoon saying someone left behind a threatening note at the school.

That note, the school said, read "blowing up the school at seven a.m. on December 19th."

Several Cook County bomb squad dogs searched the school building. River Grove police also responded.

Coincidentally, Thursday, Dec. 19 is the beginning of final exams.

One parent who spoke to FOX 32 News said he is quite suspicious of the timing of the threat.

In the letter sent home to parents Wednesday, the Elmwood Park High School principal wrote,

"[Thursday's] final exams will begin as soon as all students have been searched and have reported to their first mod classroom... student safety is our primary concern."

Prank or not, this threat is being taken seriously.

All students and staff will be required to use one entrance to get in and out of the school, and police officers will be on the school campus Thursday to search every single student entering the building.

Police are still investigation who wrote the threat.
