Stalled train cleared from Elgin bridges

ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

All downtown bridges in northwest suburban Elgin are open Monday evening, nearly three hours after a stalled freight train blocked traffic.

Police sent out a notice shortly after 5 p.m. that the stalled train was blocking east-to-west traffic at four bridges through the city.

Highland Avenue and Kimball Street bridges were reopened about 6:30 p.m., police said. Bridges at Chicago Street and National Street were reopened just before 8 p.m.
