Antioch bank robbed at gunpoint

Posted: Updated:
ANTIOCH, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Authorities are looking for a man who committed a takeover-style bank robbery on Friday in north suburban Antioch.

The North States Bank branch is at 40220 N. Route 59 (the corner of Route 59 and Grass Lake Road), which is just north of Antioch Golf Course. According to a report on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's website Bandit Tracker, the bank was robbed by a white male wearing blue jeans, a camouflage jacket, and backpack who displayed a handgun and demanded money.

The report did not indicate the amount of money or anything else that was taken in the robbery.

A takeover-style robbery is one where the offender shows a weapon and makes an announcement inside the bank instead of quietly going to a teller, passing a note and then trying to flee without drawing attention to themselves.

The offender was about 5-foot-8 and had his head covered, according to the FBI.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office has not commented on the incident.

Anybody with information about the robbery is asked to contact the FBI's Chicago office at (312) 421-6700.
