Chief Brian Benton said officers were on patrol about 2 a.m. when they stopped a vehicle being driven by Janise Williams, 19, near Jefferson Street and Woodlawn Avenue.

"The officers were able to smell (marijuana) coming from the vehicle and found 7 grams in the center console," Benton said. "The search found a loaded 9 mm handgun that had been reported stolen from North Carolina under the passenger seat."
