DETROIT (AP) -

Two Detroit organizations are operating warming centers to provide temporary relief from the cold weather for the homeless.

The city is contracting with Cass Community Social Services and Operation Get Down to keep the centers open through March.

Cass Community Social Services' center at 3901 Cass, north of downtown, has about 50 beds for women and children. It is open from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day. Hours will be extended to noon when temperatures dip to 20 degrees and below.

Operation Get Down at 6821 Medbury on Detroit's east side has about 200 beds for women, men and children. It is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The center will stay open until noon when temperatures are 10 degrees and below.
