Bears' Cutler to remain sidelined this week

Posted: Updated:

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) -- Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will likely miss at least another game because of a high left ankle sprain.

Trestman says he expects Cutler to sit out his third straight game when the Bears visit Minnesota. He is also "totally confident" his quarterback will return this season.

Cutler tore his left groin muscle against Washington on Oct. 20 and missed the next game at Green Bay two weeks later. He returned earlier than expected against Detroit on Nov. 10, only to injure his ankle. Josh McCown has played well in his place.

Trestman also said Matt Forte slightly hyperextended his knee in Sunday's loss at St. Louis and ruled out linebacker Lance Briggs (shoulder) for the Minnesota game.

Given their history, last season sure was an odd one for the Chicago Bears. Just as they finally managed to get things right on offense, their defense pulled off quite a disappearing act. Well, it's back. At least, the Bears think it's back.

The Chicago Bears know who's backing up starting quarterback Jay Cutler. Now they'd like to know their defense is backing up their offense.
