YPSILANTI, Mich. - (Sun-Times Media Wire) Two Detroit men have been charged with the murder of a former Chicago football star, found shot to death in an apartment near Eastern Michigan University last month.

Ed Jemeal Thomas and Kristopher Kaivon Pratt, both 20, are charged with open murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, Ypsilanti police said in a statement Monday.

Pratt was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The body of former Simeon Career Academy star Demarius Reed was found at an off-campus apartment several blocks north of the EMU campus. Reed, 20, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police had said in an earlier statement.

Some of Reed's belongings were missing, and robbery was the suspected motive, police said.

A 5-foot-10, 160-pound wide receiver, Reed was rated as Illinois' 43rd-best prospect at Simeon. He earned first-team All-State and All-City honors, and had started all six games for EMU this year, catching 15 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown.
