CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Twelve people were displaced after a South Deering fire Saturday on the Far South Side.

A still-and-box alarm was called for a fire in a one-story restaurant between two two-story buildings in the 10000 block of South Commercial Avenue, Fire Media Affairs reported shortly after 7 p.m.

The fire in the basement and walls of the restaurant was extinguished a short time later, and no injuries were reported, Fire Media Affairs said.

Four adults and eight children who lived in the building to the south of the restaurant were displaced after the fire, Fire Media Affairs said. The city Department of Human Services was contacted to assist them.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday night, Fire Media Affairs said.
