GARY, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police say Jamal Haskins, who escaped from custody Friday afternoon from Gary police, turned himself in at the Public Safety Facility at 11:48 a.m. Saturday, the Post-Tribune is reporting.

The 21-year-old broke free from handcuffs Friday and sent Sgt. Jarrett Bridgeman and Cpl. Len Miller to the hospital.

The two officers were assisting Cpl. Cory House with moving inmates from the jail to a van to transport them to Lake County Jail in Crown Point.

Haskins became violent, kicking one officer and shoving the other down. Bridgeman, 47, injured a knee, and Miller suffered severe chest pains. Both were taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus for treatment.

Police said Haskins will likely face felony charges stemming from the incident.
