CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Nearly a quarter million people are tweeting and talking about this - Derrick Rose and his potentially season-ending injury.

"It's horrible. I'm really upset that his meniscus is torn. I mean, I don't know, I don't know how they're going to do for the rest of the season, but I'm optimistic that the Bulls can pull through. (Even without him?) Yeah, hopefully," said Charles Swanson, a Chicagoan.

This is a blow to Bulls fans everywhere.

FOX 32 News Medical Contributor Dr. Mona Khanna explains Rose's torn meniscus in his right knee in an interview with FOX 32's Tisha Lewis.

"You could think of it as a sandwich in your knee where the meniscus is the middle is the meat part and the top part is the upper bone and the lower part is the lower bone, the menisci are sitting right in the middle, they are shock absorbers and they are cushions for the entire knee," said Khanna.

Rose left Friday's game in Portland on crutches.

This latest injury comes after the superstar point guard sat out last season after suffering a torn ligament in his left knee.

"So what I tend to think is that it is more psychological than anything. He was guarding the left possibly putting more pressure on the right and that led to the injury but I don't think we can say it's because he wasn't physically prepared… Somebody of his caliber and so much riding on him, there's no question that he's going to go into surgery," said Khanna.

Dr. Mona Khanna says this injury is most common in hockey. There is no timetable for Rose's return.
