2 dead, 15 wounded in weekend violence

Two men were killed and 15 other people were wounded in shootings throughout the city since Friday afternoon.

An 18-year-old man was shot to death inside a building in the South Chicago neighborhood late Saturday night.

Tyshon Anderson was in the first-floor hallway of a building in the 2700 block of East 80th Street around 11:05 p.m. when someone approached and shot him in the head, police said. Anderson, of that same block, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

About 40 minutes after that fatal shooting, a 17-year-old boy was shot in his left hand less than a block away. The teen told police he was in the 7900 block of South Marquette Avenue with another person when a man approached them and shot the teen after the three men fought. The victim's friend took him to South Shore Hospital, where his condition is unknown, police said. Police could not confirm whether the two shootings were connected Sunday morning.

Early Saturday morning, a 34-year-old man died after being shot several times on a sidewalk in the South Deering neighborhood early Saturday, police said.

Jeffery Whiters, 34, was found about 12:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of East 100th Street with gunshot wounds to his right thigh and left side of the body, authorities said. Whiters, of the 1200 block of West 74th Place, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where was pronounced dead at 2:47 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Others wounded in shootings throughout the city include:

A man was injured after a drive-by shooting early Monday in the South Chicago neighborhood that police said could be gang-related. The 23-year-old man was walking with friends in the 8700 block of South Exchange Avenue about 12:45 a.m. when a silver minivan pulled up, and someone fired shots at the group from the passenger side of the vehicle, police said. The minivan fled north on Exchange. The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his thigh and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in "stable" condition.

Two men were shot in an exchange of fire early Monday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. A 30-year-old man was shot in the backside and right leg inside a vehicle in the 2900 block of West Jackson Boulevard about 12:15 a.m., police said. He was taken by the driver to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stablized Monday morning. Another man, 32, was found in the street at Sacramento and Adams with gunshot wounds to the chest, arm and hand, police said. He was taken by ambulance to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. A weapon was recovered after the shooting in the 2900 block of West Adams Street.

A 41-year-old man was in the 7800 block of South Shore Drive about 2 a.m. Sunday in the South Shore neighborhood when a male suspect approached and told the victim he was going to rob him, police said. The two briefly fought before the victim heard gunshots and realized he had been struck in his right forearm. He was taken in "stable" condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

An 18-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting early Sunday in the 9600 block of South Peoria Street. The man was walking about 12:45 a.m. when someone in a white pickup truck opened fire, wounding the man's thigh. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was in "stable" condition, police said.

A 21-year-old man was shot about 10:35 p.m. Saturday while walking in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue. A gunman walked up and shot the man in the lower right leg, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and was in "stable" condition, police said.

A 17-year-old boy was seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting about 7:50 p.m. Saturday in the 7900 block of South Kenwood Avenue. The boy was walking with several other people when a white car pulled up and opened fire into the group, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

About an hour earlier, a 23-year-old man was hurt in a drive-by in the 4300 block of South Prairie Avenue, police said. The shooting occurred about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, and the man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in "stable" condition.

About 6:10 p.m. Saturday, a 33-year-old man was shot during a robbery attempt in Washington Heights. The man was in the 1000 block of West 93rd Street when the gunman approached the victim, announced a robbery and fired shots during a brief struggle, striking the victim's lower back. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition, police said.

A 29-year-old man was shot in the leg about 6 a.m. Saturday in the 4700 block of South Michigan Avenue in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg about 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of South Morgan Street in the University Village neighborhood, police said. He then went to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County on his own for treatment, where he is in "stable" condition.

A man was shot after he crashed his minivan into a fire hydrant in the West Englewood neighborhood early Saturday. The 20-year-old was driving westbound in the 1200 block of 72nd Place about 1:55 a.m. Saturday when he crashed, police said. When he got out of the car, the man heard gunshots and realized he had been shot in his lower left abdomen. Police said the shooting appears to be gang-related. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he is in "stable" condition.

A 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times in the leg and thigh about 8 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of North Central Avenue in the West Side Austin neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition.

A 17-year-old boy was approached by a group of males in the 4700 block of West Adams Street about 5:45 p.m. Friday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. They attempted to rob him, and he was shot in the lower left leg during the attempt. The boy was taken to Loretto Hospital in "stable" condition.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
