Chicago filmmaker looks to raise money for Ebert documentary

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A Chicago filmmaker needs your help to finish a documentary about the life of film critic Roger Ebert.

The film, entitled "Life Itself" is directed by "Hoop Dreams" director Steve James and produced by Martin Scorsese. It's based on Ebert's memoir of the same name.

Scorsese and James have launched a crowd-funding campaign to raise $150,000 through the website Indie Go-Go.

In exchange for a $25 donation, supporters will receive a link to view "Life Itself" in advance of its theatrical release, which is planned for early 2014.

Roger Ebert passed away from cancer in April 2013.

If the campaign exceeds its goal, the excess money will be donated towards charitable causes relevant to Ebert's life.
