Wawa Employee To Attempted Robber: 'Show Me The Gun'

PHILADELPHIA -

Police are looking to identify the person who attempted to rob a Wawa in Philadelphia but was thwarted by an employee who fought back.

This happened back on Oct. 23 at 5:36 a.m. inside the Wawa located at 912 Walnut Street in Wissahickon Park.

Police say an unknown male entered wearing sunglasses and a green towel around his head. When he approached the counter, he tugged at his waistband and demanded money from the cash register.

According to police, the employee said to the suspect, "Show me the gun," then told other employees they were being robbed.

The suspect pulled a thin piece of metal with a curved handle and walked toward the employee but got punched in the jaw and fell.

The employee then continued to punch the attempted robber before other employees pulled him away.

The suspect left the store without taking any money and drove off in a dark-blue or green BMW X5 with no license plate. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Walnut Street.

He's described as white, between the ages of 40 and 50, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 280 to 300 pounds, with short brown hair and mustache, wearing a light-blue flannel shirt and blue jeans.

If you see this suspect, police say don't approach him; call 9-1-1 immediately. To submit a tip, call 215-686-TIPS (8477) or text to PPD TIP (773847). You can also use this electronic form to submit a tip anonymously.
