Crews remove 200-year-old tree that fell in Marietta National Cemetery

MARIETTA, Ga. -

Crews are working to remove a 200-year-old tree that fell in Marietta National Cemetery last week.  The tree came down during a windstorm, and several lanes of Roswell Street are closed as crews work to clear it.

Work started around 9 a.m., and it is expected to be completed by about 1 p.m.  A 70-ton crane was brought in to remove it piece by piece, but crews are being careful not to damage any of the grave sites, or any of the nearby buildings.

When the tree fell on November 12, it blocked Roswell Street, but did not hit any headstones or injure anyone in the area.
