City Council resolution aims to keep Braves in Atlanta

Posted: Updated:

The Atlanta City Council approved a resolution on Monday aimed at keeping the Braves playing in Atlanta.

The proposal says the city will fund major improvements to turner field and support redevelopment around the stadium.

The funding -- reportedly up to $200 million -- would come from several sources, but would not include property taxes.

Since the Braves' announced plans to move to Cobb County, Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Bond says he's met with management and informed them that the city is willing to make concessions. He also says the effort has the full support of the mayor.

Cobb County has already pledged $300 million to help build a new stadium for the start of the 2017 season.
