Chef statue stolen from Cedartown restaurant

Posted: Updated:
CEDARTOWN, Ga. -

A chef statue that's been a fixture of a Cedartown restaurant for years has gone missing.

The more than 7-foot tall ceramic statue stood outside of Georgia's "Oldest Soda Fountain" for decades until its disappearance on Nov. 1. The owners of the current restaurant at that location, Poppy's Big Dawg Diner, had left it outside after grand opening ceremonies, according to WRGA.com.

Waitress Darlene Kelley said the missing chef has been the talk of the team.

"I thought, ‘He can't be missing. Who would take him? Why would they take him,'" said Kelley.

Cedartown police are on the case. Customers have been coming in with tips, and the owners have set up a Facebook page but there is still no sign of the missing chef.

The owners say this isn't the first time someone stole the chef. Many years ago, they say thieves snatched him. He was later found in an abandoned building.

Anyone who sees the statue is asked to contact Cedartown police.
