CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Images of devastation in central and southern Illinois are inspiring neighbors to the north to help those in need.

In Chicago, the Law Offices of Elizabeth Westover on 16th and Michigan are collecting donations from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday.

"They can come to the office, anybody is welcome," Bridget Born, who is collecting the donations, says. "They can call us, they can even just show up and drop off, we're willing to take whatever people have."

Van Drunden Ford on 183rd west of Kedzie in Homewood is also planning a trek to the Peoria area and is looking for more donations.

"Non-perishable food items, clothing, water, Gatorade, things like that," the organizer explains. "We're loading them up in our truck. We have a couple of other trucks that we can load up as well and Wednesday morning we're going to take them down to the distribution center for the Red Cross."

The VFW in Mokena also plans on taking in as many items as possible to help their neighbors to the south. And so far organizers say people have been extremely generous.

"I was shocked when I came in and saw all of the donations already. This is just a couple hours old to my knowledge," Mokena resident Jill Rodeghero said of all the donations.

Places like these say more is needed, but are pleased with the outpouring of support.

"You're just looking at houses that were totally demolished and you're thinking about what would you do?" says Dave ‘Redd' Walker. "I just wanted to be part of it, just wanted to help out."

"It was just heartbreaking to see all those pictures," Rodeghero adds. "It's a very good feeling that people want to come together like that."
