EAST PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Weather officials have confirmed a tornado in central Illinois.
The National Weather Service said Sunday that the tornado was located near East Peoria and moving northeast at 55 mph just before 11 a.m.
Weather officials are warning residents of potential damage to homes, windows and vehicles. East Peoria police and county authorities didn't immediately have damage reports available.
Several Midwestern states are under thunderstorm and tornado watches Sunday.
Parts of Illinois, Indiana, southern Michigan and western Ohio are at the greatest risk of seeing tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds throughout the day.
In Chicago, the Office of Emergency Management and Communications issued a warning to fans attending making their way to Soldier Field to watch the Chicago Bears host the Baltimore Ravens.
