Petition drive underway as wolf hunt begins in Mich.

The animal rights group Keep Michigan Wolves Protected is collecting signatures this weekend at the Novi Pet Expo in hopes to ban wolf hunting in Michigan.

Michigan allowed the hunting on wolves once the federal government removed the animal from the endangered species list, back in January 2012.

The Michigan law allows for the killing of 43 wolves. 658 wolves reportedly roam in Michigan. This year, 1,200 licenses were sold to hunt wolves at one hundred dollars a piece. The law states each hunter may only kill one wolf and the killing must be reported day-of.

"I'm not a math expert but 1,200 licenses to kill 43 wolves seems like more of a money maker to me," says Judy Brock from Keep Michigan Wolves Protected.
