Police nab suspect in string of CVS robberies

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

DeKalb County police announced Friday that they've arrested a man who is believed to have robbed more than 20 CVS Pharmacy stores since last March.  They say 29-year-old Denard Whiteside often hit the same pharmacies, but he was after cash instead of drugs.

Police from DeKalb County and six other agencies worked together to nab Whiteside.  Authorities say some of the robberies in question were very brazen, and they're glad to have Whiteside off the streets.

According to investigators, Whiteside hit some of the stores more than once, like one location in Decatur.  In one case, security camera footage showed him herding employees into a back office and forcing them to open a safe at gunpoint.

Police say it was DNA evidence left at one of the scenes that led to a break in the case, but not before Whiteside did everything to try and escape capture.  They say he tried to change what he was doing and what he was wearing, but they were able to put the pieces to the puzzle together and catch him anyway.

Whiteside faces seven charges, and police say there's a good chance there will be more.
