Walter Ray Simmons and Monica McBride thanked the Wayne County Prosecutor's office for filing murder charges against Theodore Wafer after the death of their daughter. The 54-year-old now faces second-degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearm charges in the Nov. 2 death of Renisha.

Wafer's bond was set at $250,000, and a preliminary examination was set for Dec. 18.

McBride was shot after police say they believe she was involved in a car accident nearby in Detroit and family members say she likely approached his Dearborn Heights home for help.

The parents of Renisha McBride  didn't want to speak out until charges were filed in the case because they didn't want to hurt the police investigation. Now that the suspect accused of killing their daughter had their day in court they are breaking their silence and aren't holding back.

((FATHER))
SIMMONS: "I don't even know why I'm saying Mr. Wafer - this monster that killed my daughter. I think they did a thorough job and came up with the right decision.

It's the memories that will hopefully help make the hard times a little easier. Family trips like this one to Disney when Renisha McBride was just 12. Her smile, her kindness, brightened everyone's day.

((MOTHER))
MCBRIDE: She was never was brung up to be a harmful person to anybody. She always wanted to help you. If she couldn't help you, she would go and get you some help, find somebody that could help you.

On Friday Renisha's parents shared the 19-year-old soccer stars' hopes and dreams for the future - a future as a nurse she will never see. Renisha was more than twice the legal limit when she crashed her car and later knocked on this Dearborn Heights home, they say, looking for help. What happened next was murder - not an accident.

MCBRIDE: I can't imagine in my wildest dreams what that man feared from her to shoot her in her face. I can't grasp myself to that belief, to where, why you wouldn't pick up the phone first. If I'm in danger I'm going to call the police.

Family members say this whole tragic situation is about a life taken way to soon, about the value of life and how it could have been anyone's daughter. This time it was theirs. Prayer is helping them get through but there's still a long, painful road ahead.

MCBRIDE: She was a beautiful young lady. She was beautiful and her spirit - it'll stay with us.

Renisha's parents repeatedly thanked the Wayne County Prosecutors office for a job well done. As for the bond in that case for the murder suspect, they say they also agree with that. They say justice will not come with jail time but with a conviction in that case. Reporting from Southfield, Robin Murdoch, Fox 2 News.
