Vehicle and foot chase ends with arrest in northwest suburbs

NORTH BARRINGTON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

After a police search that prompted a school lockdown and included a vehicle chase with a helicopter hovering above, officers caught a northwest suburban man Friday, Pioneer Press is reporting.

Lake Zurich police Cmdr. David Bradstreet confirmed the man was in custody at 3:45 p.m., about two and a half hours after Island Lake police alerted neighboring departments to a potentially armed man who fled from a reported domestic dispute.

Lake Zurich officers spotted a vehicle matching Island Lake's description at Route 12 and Miller Road, Bradstreet said. The driver did not pull over and a chase ensued.

The vehicle pursuit ended with a crash near Honey Lake Road and Beach Street in North Barrington, where the chase on foot then started.

Neighbors saw the man running through backyards in the Biltmore neighborhood, according to police at the scene. He was found hiding underneath a flatbed trailer near Lakeview Place and Miller Road, they added.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was arrested in a residential area in North Barrington. Bradstreet said he would be taken to the Lake Zurich Police Department, where he would be charged and released to Island Lake police.

The search prompted Barrington District 220 to lock down North Barrington Elementary School, though classes were not in session Friday. District 220 officials said Friday afternoon that school staff members were all safe.

Bradstreet said the suspect was taken into custody without injuries, but it was too early to know if he was armed.

"They didn't call for ambulance so I don't think anyone was hurt," Bradstreet said.
