Macy's using artificial Christmas tree

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Macy's is going green with its Christmas tree at Lenox Square this year. They'll use a reusable fake tree for the first time.

The tree will stand 56 feet tall and have more than eight miles of lights.

In January, a crane snapped while trying to remove the last tree.   It fell through the roof of the store and caused major damage.

Back in 2011, the tree cracked as it was being hoisted up to the roof of the store.

The lighting of Macy's new "Great Tree" will happen on Thanksgiving night.
