Transit union leaders demand CTA wait on Ventra

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Transit union leaders have a message for Chicago Transit Authority honchos: Postpone Ventra until the CTA irons out the kinks.

Amalgamated Transit Union President Robert Kelly says the fare issues plaguing the new system are putting his members in danger.

Kelly said rail station employees have been yelled at daily by CTA riders who are upset about their fare card failing or being double-charged.

Nov. 15, 2013 is a critical deadline for Ventra. The old magnetic striped cards will no longer be sold on that date, and Chicago Cards will no longer be accepted.

CTA officials haven't responded to Kelly's allegations, and have not announced any changes in the Ventra deadlines.
