Fire on Detroit's east side guts auto business

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

A fire on Detroit's east side has gutted a vacant automotive business on John R. and Seven Mile roads.

The fire was reported early Friday and six crews worked nearly an hour and a half to put the fire out, which flared up again later in the afternoon. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but investigators are calling it suspicious.

"It definitely didn't start by itself. Someone or something started it," says Capt. Stacey Cooper of the Detroit Fire Department.

The fire at 'With Care Towing and Recovery' shop was also one of many fires that took place Friday. Six building burned in total; three of those were commercial buildings.

"We usually have more fires the week before and the week after Angel's Night. It's going to be busy," Cooper shares.

Cooper urges everyone to keep an eye on their neighborhood, whether it's Angel's Night or not, and report any suspicious activity.
