Whenever I'm a little anxious about something in life, I tend to find myself at the grocery store, late at night, aimlessly wandering down aisles and weirdly enjoying all the different pictures, bright colors, funky packaging, new products, etc. (I especially like to walk by the British section and giggle at the names of their canned puddings and other random things. Mmmm, "Salad Cream"!) The store is eerily quiet at this time of night, with the vague hum of the freezer section and workers quietly re-stocking shelves. It's all kind of soothing in an organized yet chaotic way, you know?
Anyway, this is normally the time that I would find random convenience items to be extra lazy about. Ever since my clean eating kick really started a few months ago, I can't help but think, "well, I can just make that myself", or "why did they put sugar or evaporated cane juice or modified food starch or isolated soy protein or so much gosh darn salt", etc. in this 'natural' food item that I would normally have gotten to save some time?" The realities of "clean eating" can really be a wet blanket to my food preparation laziness. #firstworldproblems
This is some tough stuff - lots of changes, even if you thought you were pretty good to start with. Feel free to ask any questions or share your frustrations here or message me on my Fit 'n' Lazy Foodie page on Facebook.
PS – So, I loosely follow a "primal" (aka Paleo) diet. One exciting thing tonight, is that I bought some real maple syrup, because that is actually allowed in small amounts. Honestly, I used to prefer the taste of the Aunt Jemima "lite" corn syrup and sugar abomination, but since I've switched to a borderline chemical tasting "sugar-free" kind for occasional "grain-free" pancakes, I decided I would allow myself to indulge in a little bit of the good stuff, instead. My reasoning is that I'm pretty darn sure that the cavewoman version of me would have been directly gnawing on maple trees to get at some of that sweet sap. And please know that I'm not kidding. At all.
